We participated in The Amazing Race Australia!

October 21, 2020 was a day to remember at MantelClock Studios. Outside, it was hot and humid as a thunderstorm swept across the sky, casting a dramatic and changeable atmosphere over the charming mountain town of Montville. Inside Mantel Clock Studios, a different kind of chaos was unfolding – the store was closed to the public, but bustling with activity, like a gathering place for a large production team. The excitement was palpable, as the filming of episode 14 of The Amazing Race Australia took place inside our iconic store.

Long before the cameras arrived, Mantel Clock Studios had been chosen by the show’s crew as a filming location. Our unique German-style interior and picturesque views of Montville made it the perfect choice for the show’s team challenge. When we were contacted by The Amazing Race production team, we couldn’t turn down the opportunity to showcase our beloved Mantel Clock Studio and the vibrant town of Montville on primetime television. In the weeks leading up to filming, we were busy with collaborations, legal preparations and logistical planning. Daniel and Holly, owners of MantelClock Studio, worked closely with the film crew while keeping everything confidential until the program aired.

MantelClock Studio’s German chalet-style décor provided a one-of-a-kind set for The Amazing Race challenge. Hundreds of handmade cuckoo clocks lined the walls, creating the perfect setting for this exciting and visually stunning task. The challenge was simple in theory: contestants had to find one of four small German flags hidden inside the cuckoo doors of four different clocks. The difficulty lies in the fact that each clock has its own unique turn-on and chime times, and to meet this challenge, the timer is carefully calibrated to ring every 15 minutes. To succeed, participants need keen observation, patience and a bit of luck.

Those contestants who were strategic and team players got the job done quickly, while others got frustrated and spent more than 40 minutes bickering instead of searching. Once the flags were found, the teams handed them over to Holly at the front desk for verification. Watching the challenge was exciting and the day left everyone with unforgettable memories.

Daniel and Holly were very proud to have the opportunity to feature Mantel Clockworks in The Amazing Race Australia Season 5 Episode 14. The episode aired on Channel 10 on March 1, 2021 and brought national attention to our studio and the beautiful Montville area.

If you missed the episode, you can still catch all the highlights on 10play. Watch now and relive the moments!
